The magnificent spectacle of a ‘King’ class 4-6-0 No.6000 ‘King George V’ on the up ‘Cambrian Coast Express’ climbing into Birmingham Snow Hill station in the late 1950s. At this time the Western Region of British Railways had introduced the lovely brown and cream livery of the old Great Western Railway for front line coaching stock which, when coupled behind a Brunswick green ‘King’ or ‘Castle’ with burnished copper and brass, made for a stirring sight.
